Friendship Torch

On Tuesday 10th July, Fulston Manor School took part in a Sheppey & Sittingbourne Olympic Torch celebration.  The celebration involved us receiving a Sheppey & Sittingbourne friendship torch, as well as a torch designed and made from Sittingbourne Community College, before taking the friendship torch and a torch we had constructed to Rodmersham Primary School.

Upon receiving the two torches from SCC, Mr Gardner and a group of Year 7 pupils made their way to the 400m running track on the school field and ran the torch around the track for a full hour in a paired relay format.  Mr Gardner, Mrs Franks and Mrs Wisson then ran both the friendship torch and our torch to Rodmersham; all three will never forget Stockers Hill for quite some time!

Upon arriving at Rodmersham Primary School , Mr Gardner, Mrs Franks and Mrs Wisson, as well as Troy Beswick and Iona McGinn, two Year 7 pupils who had been driven to the school by Mrs Palmer, were welcomed by Headteacher Malcolm Saunders and the entire school who sang a welcoming song for us; a lovely and moving gesture.

The SCC torch can be seen in our main school reception and our torch now takes pride of place at Rodmersham.  The Fulston Manor School torch was designed and made by both teaching staff and Year 7 pupils during their Olympic and Paralympic activities week.  Made from card, the torch depicts a number of flames and each flame has been inscribed with a Year 7 or 8 pupil’s thoughts and feelings about what inspires them.
