Loop Dance Workshop
On Thursday 9th February, a selection of Year 9 students were invited to take part in an exclusive dance workshop at Fulston Manor School. A member of Loop Dance Company of Brook Theatre, Chatham, delivered a high energy, challenging contemporary dance workshop. Only a handful of students out of the twenty-eight who took part, had significant previous dance experience.
The workshop provided an opportunity for the students to experience contemporary dance, something very different from the usual street and commercial dance that they are hugely interested in. It was a chance for them to recognise that they can achieve so much when they put their mind to it and I think several students were extremely surprised at the outcome. As well as giving the students the opportunity to take part in a workshop, Maria (Loop Dance Company) was looking out for potential talent. She spotted several students who have been invited to attend a workshop at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. The Laban Centre, London is a renowned dance establishment, which provides exceptional training for potential performers. This opportunity will provide our students with the chance to develop their skills in dance and even have the chance to perform their work to their parents.
Maria said that she was extremely impressed at how much energy everyone gave and how good they were considering that only a few people had previous experience in dance. The workshop was fantastic and it really inspired many of our students who are looking into this option for GCSE. At the end of the workshop, one of the students quoted “Thank you so much for the opportunity, I really enjoyed myself. I’m not just saying that to be polite, I actually did really enjoy it.” September 2012 - GCSE Dance… watch this space!!
