A New School Year
There is always something particularly exciting about the start of every new school year, no matter how many times the pattern is repeated. It is an opportunity for everyone, staff and students alike, to begin again with new goals to be set and new challenges to be faced. In assembly last week I talked of the coming twelve months being “The Year of Astonishment”, a year in which we can all exceed previous expectations and attain new levels of achievement. The only thing that holds us back is often our own lack of self belief and aspiration; we have an outstanding set of staff and students and I believe that 2011/12 will be a year of unparalleled success.
Pausing to look back to the summer, such as it was climatically, we were pleased to achieve another excellent set of “A” level results and our GCSEs, though not quite at last year’s record breaking levels, were still comfortably the second best set of results we have ever achieved. I would like once again to pay tribute to everyone who played a part in these achievements. I would also like to thank publicly our site staff who worked tirelessly during the holidays to produce further improvements to our buildings and to the general appearance of the whole site; they are a significant factor in our success.
I have been persuaded to agree to writing a regular blog for the website this year and am at present totally unclear as to how this will develop over time. It will be clear to all who know me that I am not from the blogging, tweeting generation but, as my second contribution to the year of astonishment, I am entering into this with the resolution I am anticipating from everyone, whatever their particular challenges in the months ahead. It may be that my first contribution may form part of a future posting but this will depend on other items. Whatever is currently unclear about the 2011/12 academic year at Fulston Manor one thing that is certain is that it will be an eventful journey - it always is.
