All KS3 students study Citizenship. Students have the opportunity to investigate, discuss and debate a wide range of issues from our local society to an international perspective.  Students study issues surrounding Rights and Responsibilities, Human Rights, Diversity, Immigration, Parliament and Democracy, The UN and Europe, Local Politics, Conflict and Terrorism.  Citizenship enables students to think about the world we live in and the impact that their own decisions can have on their world.  Students learn a range of skills to help them advocate on their own behalf and to encourage others to participate effectively in society.

Key Stage 4 curriculum:

Full Course GCSE Citizenship – taken as an option. This is a 2 year course that allows students the chance to think about what it means to be a Citizen of the United Kingdom and the World.  The course focuses on four themes; Community action and active citizenship, being a citizen in the UK – considering issues of democracy and identity, concepts of fairness and justice and global issues.
GCSE Citizenship is ideal for students that want to have their say and explore topical and controversial issues.  Students are encouraged to advocate their ideas to others and think about ways in which they participate in society.
