Pi(e) day finally arrived at Fulston Manor School on 3.14 (14th March). Fulston celebrated the wonderful day of Maths, which also happened to be Albert Einstein’s Birthday! Pi Day is observed on March 14 since 3, 1, and 4 are the first three significant digits of π. As part of the celebrations Maths teachers hosted a competition in their lessons to see who could remember the most digits of Pi (the record stands at 70000 digits!). Maths lessons also had a focus on the theme of Pi, from looking at recipes of pies to drawing crop circles. At lunch, students tucked into some pies served in the canteen, and therefore even continued the Pi(e) theme during their break! Finally, teachers and kitchen staff sported a badge, with some wearing questions and others answers and so, throughout the day, students needed to pair up questions with answers. A lot of fun was had with people greeting each other with ‘Happy Pi Day’ and a smile. What a lovely way to bring a core subject to the forefront of people’s minds.
