Ian, who has mastered 8 languages, took charge of five assemblies throughout the day, speaking to over 500 students and covering a number of topics, including Geography, Modern Foreign Languages and, of course, Politics. He spoke of his time as a diplomat in various places around the world and gave the students a fantastic insight into the cultures and traditions of different nationalities. As his second language is Thai, the students loved testing him on his prowess in this foreign tongue. Many questions were asked, and the students felt that they had been in the company of someone as close to James Bond as they could imagine.

A long-standing tradition at Fulston which sees dedicated staff and students staying in school from 7pm until 7am the next morning, to raise funds for our chosen charities. This year our sixth form students chose to support two local charities - Demelza House in Sittingbourne, who provide end-of-life care for children and young people, and Ellie’s Angels, who do wonderful work in helping support young adults with their mental health.

With both schools having strong sides, the game was set to be a thriller. 

Both teams started strong, having promising possession of the ball but couldn't make the breakthrough against either defence. TWGS then started to play some slick football which broke the Fulston defence. The TWGS forward struck the ball straight to the bottom corner which allowed TWGS to take the lead. We tried to step up to another gear but quickly conceded a penalty and another well-worked goal by TWGS which saw us fall 3-0 down. 

Frustrated from falling 3-0 down, Fulston were riled up and pressed the TWGS midfield to win back possession. Brad received the ball and turned away to make space and struck the ball straight into the top right-hand corner to make it 3-1.

The second half came and Fulston were determined to fight back. Dominating possession, we were able to have attempt after attempt on goal but could not find the back of the net. Not until Olly received the ball on the edge of the box and struck straight into the back of the TWGS net to make it 3-2. 

Our Year 9 boys pressed to equalise but unfortunately could not find another goal and the final score was 3-2 to TWGS. Fulston fought so well to come back from 3-0 down. All players should be exceptionally proud of their performance - well done all!

He came away with 4 gold medals and gained 3 new PBS/club records.

Hammer came first where Blake threw a huge PB of 46.12m (a 3-metre improvement) which moved him up to 8th in the UK. Shot Put was next, and he threw a massive 12.22m (1.46 metre improvement) which moved him up almost 100 spaces on the UK rankings list. Despite not being happy at Discus, he still threw over 36m. Finally, for Javelin, he threw a new PB of 36.57m which he was very happy with considering he had only thrown it once this season.

He was competing in both hammer and discus and his aim was to come top 10 in both. Blake was over the moon with hammer and threw a new personal best of 42.97meters! This was almost 3 meters further than his previous best. He managed to finish 5th in the competition and was so happy. Placing 5th in a competition which was open to the whole of the UK his parents were so proud of him. This performance also moved him up in the UK rankings and he is now ranked 11th in the UK.

At a time when examination grades have been re-hardened to the pre-pandemic levels and against the backdrop of these students having a hugely disrupted school experience including starting their GCSEs in the pandemic,  the grades of those listed below, and many others within the year group, are all the more praiseworthy.
