Vive la France!

Over the gloriously sunny bank-holiday weekend, a group of 33 Year 8 students and 4 staff took part in a language detective residential visit to Paris with PGL.  We had an action-packed 4 days, and have returned with many happy memories.

Our French experiences started en route to our chateau-style resort with a visit to a traditional village bakery. Here we learned how to make baguettes, croissants and pain au chocolat, before students had the chance to roll their own with some wonderful results and also taste freshly cooked produce.

Over the weekend, we walked up the Eiffel Tower, took a boat trip on the Seine and saw many of the other famous landmarks of Paris. Students had the opportunity to practice their French when we visited Brie Compte-Robert, where they completed a town trail following instructions in French.  The freshly cooked food in the market proved too tempting to resist for some of our students and they enjoyed a tasty early lunch!  Sunday was Mother’s Day in France and roses were being handed out at the market to all mothers – even Mrs Collins and Miss Davies received one! Then in the afternoon we visited the spectacular palace of Fontainebleau, spending time in the grounds and inside the palace itself.

During the evenings, students took part in a mini-Olympics, made and ate their own pancakes, and also had a disco on the final evening.  On the journey home, a hypermarket stop gave students the opportunity to see a range of different products – many of which they recognised from UK!

We arrived back home after a fantastic 4 days, the end of our visit, and with experiences never to be forgotten.
