True commitment to the cause was in abundance during the Easter holidays when two students joined Mrs Palmer in litter picking along Brenchley Road. Kyla and Freya, both Year 7 students, volunteer with the Eco Squad at school and normally give up their lunch times to litter pick but, with a busy two weeks before the end of term getting in the way of clearing rubbish, it was decided that the school would spend some time trying to make the area surrounding the site a bit tidier – the girls were more than happy to volunteer. Mrs Palmer said “Freya and Kyla are examples of just how wonderful young people are. They could have stayed in bed, seen friends or just generally relaxed away from school but they wanted to help. Normally we are picking up food wrappers, beer cans, bottle and filled dog bags but we had a fabulous find when we came across a painted rock which had been hidden. I think I was more excited than the girls! We re-hid the stone so somebody else can have the fun of finding it now”. The photograph of the girls holding the rock was posted on Sittingbourne Rocks Facebook page.
