On Friday 22nd June two Year 11 students had the incredible opportunity to fly in a four seater plane around the Kent coastline, with the route encompassing a fly over each students homes and offered stunning views of the coast from the Isle of Sheppey to Folkestone. India and Jake were chosen based on their outstanding effort applied to their Geography GCSE over the past two years.

With very fortunate weather the students, accompanied by Mr Tim Westby and their experienced pilot Mr Tiller, set off across the Medway towns. The incredible views of Rochester Castle and Cathedral, The Strand and The River Medway were a superb start to the journey. This was followed by a flyover of Fulston Manor School and then off to the coast. Jake, who had had some flying experience in the past, was given the opportunity to co-pilot as they reached Margate, the site where the students had carried out their geography fieldwork just a few months prior. Clear skies enabled excellent views across the English Channel all the way to Calais, alongside the dramatic White Cliffs of Dover and historic Dover Castle.

Both students had a superb trip, with Jake saying: “It was really great being sat in the cockpit, with views all around you and having a go at steering the plane was amazing!”. It was certainly a well-deserved, exciting end to both students’ GCSE’s at Fulston Manor School.
