Bone Talk Tour Hits Sittingbourne

Fulston Manor School joined forces with Highsted Grammar School and welcomed Costa Award nominated author Candy Gourlay who spoke to 350 students about her book, Bone Talk, which is set in the Philippines. Book Talk is an excellent example of descriptive writing and Candy shared with her audience her journey from living in the Philippines, meeting the man she was to eventually marry and moving to England to becoming a published author following many rejections. Candy had the students completely enthralled as she spoke passionately about her life – the ups and the downs – and how drawing from her own experiences allowed her to break through into the world of becoming a fictional writer. Leni Sewell, 12, and Sophia Millen, 11, said “Candy was so inspiring. The talk went really quickly as she was so lovely and interesting. She was so good at storytelling!”, Candy was more than happy with the response from both schools “It was lovely to see two schools join forces and to be part of my tour. It has been a pleasure to visit Sittingbourne and I do hope that everyone who bought my book enjoys it”. Books were signed by Mrs Gourlay before the students had to come back down to earth and go to lessons!
