Year 13 student Katie Upton has recently had the privilege of being part of the judging panel for the Swale Volunteer Awards. Katie has been part of the Swale Youth Forum where groups of students from all over Swale meet regularly at Swale Borough Council to discuss local issues. It was through these meetings that Sophia Ramm, Community Services Officer at SBC, approached Katie to ask if she would be interested in getting involved. Katie jumped at the chance and took part in choosing the Award Winners and speaking at the Awards ceremony which was held on 1st March. Sophia said “Katie was a real credit to Fulston on Friday evening. She engaged with all those on her table to find out more about their voluntary work and then delivered a truly remarkable speech, with such confidence. I had many people approach me after the awards to say how fantastic she was”. Mrs Palmer said “Fulston is VERY proud of Katie and know that she would love to get involved again if she is invited in the future”.
