A group of 44 Year 8 students have just returned after spending an exciting 4 days in the French capital city.
En route to Paris we visited the sealife centre, Nausicaa, in Boulogne where Ben “Aquaboy” Summers impressed us with his knowledge of the various species.
Over the weekend, we were blessed with clear sunny skies. For some students, the climb to the first floor of the Eiffel Tower was enough and provided great views of the Parisian landscape, whilst others continued to the second floor, climbing a total 674 steps. The opportunities to see the famous landmarks of the city continued with a cruise along the Seine, past Notre Dame and the Louvre and underneath the many bridges spanning the river. After dinner, it was time to become chefs and make, cook and eat our own crêpes, “miam miam” (yum, yum), with Cody Taylor and Callum Watts standing out as Master Bakers.
The following day was packed full of adventure, starting with a town trail around Brie-Comte-Robert, a small local town and the opportunity to practice French in the Sunday morning market. Then we visited the Louvre museum, entering the art gallery beneath the famous pyramid, gazing at that enigmatic smile of “La Jaconde” (Mona Lisa) and the ancient Greek statue of Venus de Milo. In the afternoon we went to the Montmartre district, walked respectfully through Sacré Coeur cathedral, watched the many artists in the Place du Tertre and purchased souvenirs of our visit.
After returning to base, some students realised that they actually enjoyed the snails that they had the chance to sample with their meal! With a choice of swimming, a disco, karaoke and football, students had plenty to keep them busy for their final evening.
On the journey home, a hypermarket stop gave students the opportunity to see a range of different products – many of which they recognised from UK!
We arrived back home after a fantastic 4 days, the end of our visit, and with experiences never to be forgotten.
