Fulston Manor School has recently started up a new extra curriculum club called Fulston News which is an exciting new journalistic venture which aims to provide informative and investigative articles, support pages and entertainment to both parents and students throughout the year. It has proved a valuable means for investigating what actually matters to the students.  Furthermore, it has given them a platform to learn new skills and refine others such as communication skills, writing skills and working as part of a team. Mrs Doughty, teacher in charge of Fulston News, said “In a changing world, it is important that our young people at Fulston Manor feel they can have their say on topics that they feel passionate about.  The newspaper encourages a love of investigative journalism and aims to create articles that probe and reveal issues that can now be given a platform for discussion.  Student media is one of the cornerstones of an active and engaged student body and it is my hope that parents will also engage with the school newspaper, be it as part of ‘Letters to the Editor’ or perhaps as interviewees for our students”.

Recently Fulston News has signed up to BBC Young Reporter which will enable those students who wish to hone their journalistic skills further, to enter into national competitions and have their work reviewed by professionals from the industry.  In addition, the student journalists will now have the opportunity to complete podcasts on a topic of relevant importance and from September 2019 even create news broadcasts which can be displayed on the website and on the TV screens around the school.

Currently, the newspaper is published online during the first week of each term (six publications per academic year), however the website www.fulstonnews.com is updated weekly.
