It's Not Just Olympians Who Aim For Gold

Year 13 student Alexandra Braby has spent the past three years working towards her Duke of Edinburgh award and is so close to achieving her Gold status. Alex has recently spent 4 days trekking through the Black Mountains in Wales as part of her expedition trials. Walking for 8 hours a day, carrying tents and equipment with four other young people was incredibly hard but, according to Alex, very rewarding. She said “I meet the girls every month as we are part of a Youth Group from Sawston, Cambridgeshire. Meeting up more than that could be tricky considering the distance involved. The Welsh expedition was fantastic. I would really encourage young people to take up this challenge and get involved as there are so many opportunities to do thing you wouldn’t normally get the chance to do”. Alex only has a few months of volunteering to complete and then she will, hopefully, be invited to Buckingham Palace for the Grande Finale and to receive her Gold Award.
