This term Mrs Prince wanted to do a community project to honour the service and sacrifice of our Armed Forces, veterans, and their families. In Year 7 Textiles the students have been learning to hand sew and, in particular, both the running stitch and backstitch. Mrs Prince felt this was the perfect opportunity to showcase the students skills and make something to remember the many who gave their lives for others. Over the course of the last few weeks, the students and staff created an amazing wall hanging which is made up of hundreds of poppies that are either hand sewn, or knitted. The knitted poppies came from the staff who were also invited to take part in the school community project. Mrs Prince said, “It fills me with pride to see the enthusiasm that the Year 7 students took this project on with, and were so keen to make their poppies so they could take part and show their support”. Joshua Hodnet, 12, said “It was wonderful to be part of this wall hanging. I made some poppies at home to bring into school and yesterday (Sunday) people in my street stood outside in silence at 11.00am to pay our respects also”.
The wall hanging will now be displayed within the school.
